The Alexandria Lamp

The driving element of this standing lamp is the over-sized blue bottle that I used for the shroud.  I put a lot of thought into how the other aspects of the piece would balance between highlighting the glass and being eye-catching on their own.  The cascading steel pipe of the  neck is minimalistic to keep from casting too much shadow or reflection, while the bicycle sprockets on the head are laid out in a way that suggests direction of the light out and downwards.  The shroud is suspended between a magnesium pushrod and transmission gear, keeping the extra long filament style LED bulb unobstructed.  Like the ancient lighthouse of Egypt, this lamp serves as a beacon in the dark, and a great means to light your library.
