Flying Coffee Dragon
The first statute I put together that had an intended final design was this dragon that I made my wife for her birthday. Since I had started welding, she had been asking me to make something that we could put in our garden, but I had struggled to find a starting point. Then one day I had to dismantle a large electric motor at work, and as I held the burnt armature in my hand, inspiration took hold and I added steel toes from some old boots, a broken saw blade, an old cast-steel wrench, and a whole bunch of burned up coffee burrs. It was only once I had that first part though, that starting point, that the rest just made sense; and while it’s far from my most intricate project, it’s probably still my most important.
