Why make one when you can make two? Normally the answer to this question for me is that I’ve only got enough of the key elements to make one. I have a whole box of valve covers, and shelf full of piston caps to play with though, so I thought I’d take a shot at working out an idea a few times. These lamps are the first try at that idea, and they turned out well enough that I might try a few more. I cantilevered a valve cover from an old Chevy off of a connecting rod from a four cylinder jeep over a set of used Chevy (I think?) piston cups. Those parts are worked together with half-inch gas pipe and brass fittings. The wiring on these lamps is hidden in some blue high-pressure push-connect air lines. The piston cups were filled with cement to add some weight, and then covered with disks I cut out from some copper sheet. Then, to really finish them off, I used keyed switches that have a very satisfying ‘click’ when actuated. Some ideas really are good enough to have more than once, I hope you agree.
