Cedar Topo Table

A core concept in all of my work is that the parts I’m working with are already beautiful, all I’m doing is restructuring them to highlight that aesthetic.  In the case of this side table, that meant removing more material than I added.  I took a 5″ thick cedar slab and slowly routed out a series of channels, leaving behind stepped mesas.  I then coated the cedar with a food safe cutting board finish to hold in the color.  The top is inset with a ¼” cut glass window that is recessed flush with the top of the wood.  A Ford Model A brake backing plate secures the top to three unscrew-able Model A cam shafts.
