Wine Racks and Mantle

I’ve never met a project that I couldn’t get carried away with.  This project started out as a simple commission for a set of wine racks & liquor shelf with a “mechanical computing” theme.  In refining that concept, I built a 9′ long, 2″ thick shelf from a solid piece of Pecan with a live edge.  I added a short fence with bicycle sprocket accents, a set of low-wattage lights housed in cut gin bottles, and a bank of adjustable antique gas pump dials.  Below the shelf, I fabricated 8 sets of  racks that hold 4 wine bottles apiece.  This configuration allows for short words to be written in Boolean (1’s and 0’s) by arranging bottles across the eight individual  rows.  As pleased as I am with the final product, the most fulfilling aspect has been hearing from the customer how much they enjoy the way it compliments the space and the compliments it receives from their guests.
